Creative Expression: A Foundation for Resilient Societies

19 June - 25 July 2026, GAEP Gallery Bucharest

As part of its commitment to fostering dialogue at the intersection of culture, society and economic development, BUCHAREST CENTER FOR ECONOMY & SOCIETY (CES Bucharest) teams up with GAEP Contemporary Art Gallery for the opening of Concretion, the new solo exhibition by Brazilian artist Felipe Cohen.

At CES Bucharest, we recognize that sustainable economic development is inseparable from cultural vitality. Creative expression expands the capacity for critical thinking, strengthens social cohesion and encourages the exchange of ideas across disciplines, sectors and communities. These are essential foundations for innovation, resilience and inclusive growth.

Our partnership with GAEP reflects a shared commitment to creating platforms where artistic practice contributes to broader conversations about the future of society. Contemporary art offers unique perspectives on complexity, transformation and the human experience, fostering the openness and intellectual curiosity that underpin dynamic economies and democratic societies.

Through collaborations such as Concretion, CES Bucharest aims to strengthen connections between the cultural and broader spheres, bringing together leaders from business, academia, government, civil society and the creative industries. By encouraging cross-sector dialogue, we aim to promote new ways of thinking about the challenges and opportunities shaping our collective future.

We are proud to support initiatives that exemplify the role of culture as a strategic asset in advancing resilient institutions, vibrant communities and sustainable economic and social development.

About Concretion Exhibition by Felipe Cohen

An exhibition of new reliefs and sculptures that deepen the artist`s pursuit of giving tangible form to time, natural light, the atmosphere of a place and the interplay between them. Using an artistic lexicon grounded in geometric forms, economy of means, and poetic sensibility, Cohen seeks to solidify fluid states, materialize abstract or evanescent phenomena, and transform moments into memories. Embedded within his work is an understanding of abstraction not as a cold or purely rational language, but as a vehicle that engages the viewer’s imagination and emotions.

As the artist describes them, his sculptures are “a metaphor for sculptural making”, the result of a reflection on the very meaning of this artistic act. In his view, classical sculptors and Old Masters sought to eternalize a moment.

Rooted in the legacy of Concrete and Neo-Concrete Art in Brazil, Cohen’s inquiry extends beyond formal research into a psychological experience. His work is conceived and executed with such precision that it seems to generate its own material—or “concrete”—reality. Yet its achievement is also affective: out of structure, harmony, and rhythm, he creates emotion.
